If you have an old camera (digital, film … etc etc) in great working condition that is sitting around at home, consider donating it to youths in need at this charity-mixer event. Your cameras will go towards the People’s Association PMET division old camera donation drive for underprivileged youth. Feel free to bring a couple of beers to make a new DUAL friend.

4. Volunteering Opportunity – Teach a class, Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating students from Kindergarten to JC/Poly level on entrepreneurship, work-readiness and financial literacy. All courses are offered free of charge and are taught by volunteers from the business world.

Junior Achievement Singapore has a number of upcoming volunteering opportunities to teach classes in schools. We need a few more volunteers for August. We generally partner 2 volunteers per class. The course is activity-based. Training and all course materials are provided.

Total: 6 hours

Dates: 5th August
Time: 8:00am – 1:30pm
Total: 5 ½ hours (including ½ hour break)

Course: JA More than Money
Date: 5th & 6th August
Time: 5th (9:30am – 1:00pm) & 6th (8:30am – 12:00pm)
Total: 7 hours (including ½ hour break each day)

Course Description:

JA It’s My Business

If entrepreneurship is behind a country’s economic success, then what is behind entrepreneurship itself? Can one learn to think and act like an entrepreneur? Most definitely. This program teaches students the four key characteristics of successful entrepreneurs: believing in themselves; filling a need; knowing their customer and product; and being creative and innovative.

JA It’s My Business will provide an engaging, academically enriching, and experiential learning sessions in entrepreneurship. The students will be able to:

– Define entrepreneurship
– Identify four key entrepreneurial characteristics
– Describe how entrepreneurs fill a market need
– Discuss the role of market research in determining market need and competitive advantage
– Recognize how being creative and innovative are necessary entrepreneurial skills for starting a business
– Analyze how entrepreneurs use their knowledge and abilities to create businesses
– Develop business plans based on a set criteria

Following participation in the program, students will be able to apply their entrepreneurship skills to education, career, and service pursuits.

JA Our Families

Children tend to think everything they want is something they need. Learning to recognize the difference between the two is one of the first crucial lessons in financial literacy. By focusing on the roles of people play in their local economy, students understand the importance of work, and the tools and skills to get – or earn – what they want.
The goals of JA Our Families are:
– Increase the students’ knowledge of how jobs provide for a family’s needs and wants.
– Help students become more aware of the types of jobs family members hold.
– Heighten the students’ awareness of how each person contributes to the well-being of the family
– Help the students learn the importance of working to pay for needs and wants

JA More than Money

“What good is earning money if people aren’t taught how to save, spend and share it? This programme instills these essential skills in students, and shows them how entrepreneurial thinking and financial savvy can transform an idea into a business that can generate jobs and wealth for themselves and their communities.

JA More than Money will provide an engaging, academically enriching, and experiential learning sessions in economic education. The following key concepts will be presented:

– The role money plays in society
– Sharing, saving and spending
– Becoming a smart consumer
– Earning income by starting a business

Following participation in the program, students will be able to build on their understanding of money basics and apply these skills to daily life as well as recognize the significance of money management in making informed life-decisions.
