Victoria Huang is a Specialist in Chinese Paintings with Bonham. Contemporary ink art has made a big splash in recent years, preoccupying discussions amongst Chinese art historians and the art market. Victoria will examine the creative output of key Chinese artists from the 1970s who have sought cultural renewal through their reinterpretations of the age-old medium, as well as discuss collecting trends, market performance and what this means to our Singapore contemporary ink artists.

Emi Eu, Director of STPI. Emi Eu has been an important member of STPI from 2001. Since becoming Director in 2009, she has led the organization towards global expansion, introducing exciting collaborations with renowned artists both within Asia and from the West. Under her directorship, STPI became the first gallery from Singapore to participate in the prestigious art fair, Art Basel Basel, in 2013. She is on the Selection Committee of Art Basel Hong Kong and a member of the Joint Committee for Art Basel Basel, Miami Beach and Hong Kong. Since 2007, she has been the Programme Director of Fondation d’Entreprise Hermès Third-Floor, a non-commercial art space that champions contemporary young artists by commissioning, producing and presenting works within its space in Singapore.

Back by popular demand, the Stanford Club of Singapore will host its periodic mixer on Thursday July 23. At our last King’s Trend Talk on “Malaysia after the 13th General Election”, our speaker Dr Farish Ahmad Noor told the audience to keep an eye on the PAS Islamic Party, an unknown factor that could break the opposition. As predicted, the opposition Pakatan Rakyat (even though holding 51% of the popular vote) is in disarray. Nevertheless the ruling party also has its fair share of problems. For example, past Prime Minister Dr Mahathir calling for the current Prime Minister Najib to step down, the Allah confusion, the 1MDB’s multi-billion controversy and the latest “sarong” issue. Following a successful DUAL Speed Dating on Valentine’s Day in the new format, we will once again play cupid. So, rather than going through the standard opening questions (Where do you work? Do you game? How many goldfish do you want?), we’ve decided to shake things up a little this year! In other words, you are to provide a short description of yourself in no more than 30 words upon registration. These will be compiled and published prior to the event, with only your initials identifying you. So be creative! At the event, there will be 15 guys and 15 girls. Being able to relate and connect well with others, is an essential skill which stands to favourably shape and enrich our relationships. Re-Connect is a brief talk, focusing on understanding interpersonal skills, with relation to our own behaviours that support or prevent us from learning these skills. It is specifically geared towards Single Working Professionals, who are looking to impact relationships, both in their personal and professional lives. The nature of this presentation will be experiential, encouraging participants to be actively involved in creating an experience which is effective and insightful.
